Nigerian political space has always been accompanied by a lot of drama each time it comes. Imo state has not been left out this season as a lot of drama have been recorded since the tension intensified. Some of the drama were even downright comedic! E.g. the case of veteran comedian Uche Ogbuagu, producing a comedy Album with a theme that was wildly used during most political rallies. This was followed by a reply from another person to counter some of the things he said.
In 2011, Imo state was largely on the news during the processes that saw the ousting of Governor Ikedi Ohakim and victory of Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
Fast forward to 12th April, 2015. It’s happening again. As various states have announced their results (even Lagos), Imo state is still struggling with collation and irregularities arising from Saturdays elections.
The tension is very high. People are already celebrating in various areas and for different candidates. The key contenders from available results are Governor Rochas Okorocha and Chief Emeka Ihedioha. APGA have crashed out of the race and are already laying complaints and calling for cancellation.
The latest news now is that the election has been declared inconclusive by INEC.
