There was wild jubilation in Owerri yesterday as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the APC candidate, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha winner of the April 11th and 25th governorship elections in the state.
He polled a total of 416, 996 to defeat his closest rival, Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP who scored 320,705.
In his acceptance speech at the Government House Chapel, the re-elected governor thanked God for giving him victory. He vowed that all those who have been with him will be adequately rewarded, while those who will come in will be accommodated. “Ndi Imo arise and shine…arise and take what belongs to you. APC national is so grateful for your role in her victory. Education will continue to be my number one industry, while tourism and other industries shall be established. By June 1,000 Imo youths will leave for Turkey for industrial training, we will give priority to our engaged youths in the Youth Must Work programme”, he said.
Meanwhile, a large number of Imo people trooped out in major roads and streets of Owerri to celebrate governor Okorocha’s victory. They were seen along bank road, Orlu road, Wetheral, Douglas and the IICC, dancing to loud music with broom and party flag. This caused heavy traffic along major roads.
Speaking to news men, the special adviser to the governor on internally generated revenue, Hon. Chinedu Illor, remarked that Owelle is God’s gift to Imo people, who loves him so much and vice versa and that is why people have trooped out to celebrate his victory.
