Staff and medical personnel of Federal Medical Centre, Owerri on Thursday continued their protest along Orlu Road.
The protest, which has become a recurrent routine among all category of workers in the hospital, is aimed at pressing for the sack of the Medical Director, Dr Angela Uwakwem, resist attempts to privatize key departments and improved working conditions.
The protesters numbering in their hundreds, carried placards with different inscriptions like ‘Angela Uwakwem is worst than Ebola‘; ‘We say no to Privatization‘, and they caused traffic along the Owerri-Orlu road.
Some of the protesters expressed dismay on why the Medical Director would want to privatize key departments in the efficient hospital. Others remarked that she has hijacked everything and has been fingered in several dubious practices like misappropriation of funds, shortchanging staff in terms of payment of allowances and taking unilateral decisions alone without the management board.
