The annual Odenigbo Lecture series organized by the Catholic Community in Owerri will hold tomorrow at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral located along Port – Harcourt road. The event will be ushered in by a variety night which will start today by 5pm at the same venue.
The event is celebrated annually and used to mark the elevation of the Owerri diocese to Archdiocesan level. The odenigbo lecture is an integral part of the annual celebration that is aimed at promoting and sustaining the Igbo customs and tradition. According to the official website of the Archdiocese, the Odenigbo lecture, written and delivered in Igbo language is an essential part of the Owerri Archdiocesan Day celebration. It carries a vibrant intellectual spirit and stimulates a novel appreciation of the Igbo language and of healthy Igbo values.
It is a thought provoking lecture delivered by great scholars named at the end of each years’ celebrtion. The late Dora Akunyili was a guest lecturer. This year’s lecture will be delivered by a Reverend Father, Professor and teacher from Imo state University, Owerri, Rev. Fr. John Obilor.
