A senior officer of the Nigerian Customs Service who was reportedly abducted last Sunday in his home town of umuohoke in Amaigbo, Nwagele LGAof Imo state has been shot dead by his captors. The victim, who until his death was serving in Lagos State had visited his home town in connection with a house project he had embarked upon.
A source in the Imo State customs command, who pleaded anonymity said the late officer might have been allegedly setup by some of his relations with the intention of extorting money from him. The source further said “some close relation of the customs officer must have masterminded his abduction when he visited his home town to check the progress on the building project he embarked upon. The source further revealed that the deceased had gone to the project site with four of his brothers to inspect the building when the was abducted by four armed men. It was also learnt that the resistance by the late officer from being bundled into the get-away car had infuriated the leader of the gang, who had aimed a shot at his leg but missed and hit one of his members.
Angered by the development, the source said the customs officer was said to have been dragged to an area where his abductors shot him dead. When contacted, the state police command PRO, Joy Elomoko (DSP) confirmed the incident but could not say whether any arrests has been made.
