The public lecture meant to hold yesterday at Imo State University Auditorium failed to hold two hours after the slated time. What is surprising is the status of people who were supposed to be part of the event and the level of media publicity given to it.
The lecture was to be taken by Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya, Justice of the Court of Appeal while the chairman was to be the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor U.A. Awuzie.
The lecture was announced many times on local radio stations and appeared on the White Paper Newspaper of the previous day.
However, when AlaOwerri.com visited the venue, there was no sign that such event was to hold. Other prospective participants equally expressed surprise on getting to the venue. A university staff who spoke anonymously claimed they had no knowledge of any event.
Two hours after the stipulated time, the venue was still empty.
One would wonder what examples our leaders are leaving for the younger generation and considering the topic of the lecture, “Anti-corruption wars in Nigeria: A reality or a ruse”, one would also wonder if the same applied to the lecture.
