The Nigerian political sector is never short of interesting stories and updates for both the producer and consumer of information.
Fresh crisis is brewing in the National Assembly as APC rejects the new Senate President. The National Assembly premises was also locked down prior to the election that had Saraki and Ekweremadu emerging as Senate President and Deputy Senate President resepectively.
Another trouble is formenting inside the APC as Governor Rochas is making moves to have his inlaw, Professor Anthony Anwuka emerge as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. ThisDaylive reported that Okorocha, as the leader of APC in the South-east, is saddled with the responsibility of submitting the list of the SGF nominees to President Buhari to make a choice. The report also stated that the other names on the list are Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Senator Chris Ngige.
According to sources in the APC, Okorocha’s preference is Prof Anwuka for the post and only included Onu and Ngige on the list to fulfill all righteousness.
The Governor has severally been accused of running a family type of government as Anwuka’s son, Uzo, recently married Uju, his daughter.
A source told Thisdaylive: “You should be aware by now that Rochas has removed the SSG in Imo State. He replaced him with his chief of staff and replaced the chief of staff with his son-in-law (Uche Nwosu) who was Commissioner for Lands in his first term. He has sent Anwukas name to Buhari for the post of SGF,” the source disclosed.
When the source was reminded that Onu was the name on everyone’s lips, the source explained that the governor has been telling those who care to listen that he has the ear of Buhari.
Another source who corroborated Okorocha’s latest move, said, “If you look at the sharing of key posts, you would see that APGA (All Progressives Grand Alliance) that he took to join them in the APC has not been rewarded.
“Buhari is from the defunct CPC (Congress for Progressives Change), Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, his deputy is from the defunct ACN (Action Congress of Nigeria, (John Odigie-Oyegun was a chieftain of the defunct ANPP (All Nigeria Peoples Party) while Bukola Saraki came from the New PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), so Okorocha believes he is within his rights to determine who shall be SGF.”
Only time will tell if he will be able to pull this off and if he does, we only hope it brings good tidings to the people of the state.
